Rising Damp

This occurs by the moisture rising through the masonry in the wall in contact with a damp floor. The moisture than seeps into the surroundings of the wall: the pastering and the cavities, causing water damage and providing conditions for fungi to grow.
There are a number of different solutions to this, which will vary depending on the building be worked on the extent of the damage.

Preventing the rising of the water can be achieved by applying a damp proofing cream around the masonry or a physical plastic membrane between the wall and the floor.  Following this, a number of plaster additives and membranes can be applied to the walls to repair any existing damage.

Replastering

Walls suffering from damp will cause issues with the plaster currently in place and it is likely that large parts of this will have to be replaced once the wall is repaired.  Salts infect the damp regions which encourage further damp problems and therefore must be remedied.

Once a damp course has been completed the replastering work must be completed – in some cases this will involve the placement of a membrane to allow the walls to dry-out fully whilst the plastering work is going on. In addition, salt neutralizing additives can be added to the plaster to remove any issues with current salt build ups

Structural waterproofing

This work may be needed in areas of a high exposure to moisture where water and damp can cause a serious problem. For example in basements in cellers, where the exposure of the outerwall to moisture is high and the water pressure becomes relatively high

Working with your building team, we can ensure that the correct preventative barriers are included into the structure to create a solid damp proofing barrier. In addition to damp proof creams and courses, these can included membranes, masonary protection liquids, sumps and other treatments to make sure that liquid is channeled and pushed away from the building structure.

Dry Rot and Wet Rot

These are types of fungal infections that thrive in damp conditions. The fungus and attack masonry and timber structure – causing permanent damage and possible instability. This is considered to be quite serious problem and a quick and serious response is advised in response.

A full treatment will usually involve three steps:

  • Removing the source of damp or moisture
  • Removing the offending fungal growths which have sprouted to the surface
  • Treating the structure to completely eradicate all internal spores

Mould eradication

Mould is houses and office is a common problem caused by condensation – it is often found in places which are not well ventilated. The moisture in the air can come from showers, sinks or even just people breathing

The build up of mould can cause issues with a person;s health and a building’s structure, and if of course highly unpleasant to see
Our mould eradication services will help you rid your building of the offending mould, redecorative with preventative formlaes to stop the mould from returning and even help with the installation of new ventilation systems to stop the mould from returning

Woodworm

Woodworms come in a number of difference species or wood boring beetles and as a result can require different treatments.

Increasingly found in commercial and residential building alike, the beetles will infest the untreated timber and use this as a food source. During a survey, we will identify the type of beetle in order to correctly  treat the infestation.
