Different damp proofing materials in short lines

Posted by Sachit Patel on June 09, 2011 (0 Comments)

We can all agree that damp proofing is one of the biggest issues all house owners face during their stay, especially if they live in areas with high humidity and in objects that are somewhat past their prime. There is very much possibility that such objects have not been damp proofed properly when built, namely that they do not contain a proper damp proof course. These damp proof courses have been made from such damp proofing materials like lead, or slate, while today, we use materials such as bitumen and certain polythene-based materials that are much more efficient in providing the building with a damp proof course.

However, once the damp issues has already arisen, there are different ways of dealing with it and therefore, different damp proofing materials that can be used in order to alleviate this problem.

The first most common way of dealing with damp is by using damp proof membranes. These physical barriers are made from such efficient and technologically advanced damp proofing materials such as polypropylene, polythene and other materials that were designed not to let any moisture through.

Another very common solution for damp issues, especially if the buildings with brick and mortar are in question are certain chemical solutions that are injected in the walls and meant to block any further moisture penetration and spreading.

Of course, there is also an old-fashioned way of painting on bitumen, which is one of the oldest damp proofing materials used.
